Safety Lunch & Learn: Narcan Training

Wednesday, June 4, 2025 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (AKDT)

Description

Every second counts in an opioid overdose, and you can be the difference between life and death.

Join the AGC Safety Committee from noon - 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 4 for a free Narcan (naloxone) Lunch & Learn sponsored by Granite Construction. You'll learn how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to safely administer Narcan, a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose within minutes.

Why It Matters:

  • Over 80,000 people in the U.S. died from a drug overdose in 2024 according to the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics.
  • Approximately 60% of these deaths involved synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
  • Many overdoses happen in public or at home—and bystanders are often the first and only chance a victim has.
  • Narcan is safe, easy to use, and has no potential for abuse. It's legal to carry in most states, and no medical background is needed to administer it.

What You'll Learn:

  • How to identify an opioid overdose
  • How to safely use Narcan nasal spray
  • Steps to take until emergency services arrive
  • Where to access free Narcan in your community
